Mesothelioma Treatment Centers |
Mesothelioma Treatment Centers - Due to the increase in mesothelioma patients all over the world there are many mesothelioma treatment centers now available. These centers offer research teams along with medical experts to provide patients with ongoing therapy and services to assist them in the process of medical treatments needed to fight the cancer.
These centers are located nationwide in the United States and their primary objective is to specialize in mesothelioma cancer. Victims of mesothelioma, while visiting a center can expect the most effective care possible as this disease is a very aggressive form of cancer in the life expectancy of a patient diagnosed is relatively small.
Although people who worked with asbestos have been known to be the highest group of people contracting the disease and needing to visit mesothelioma treatment centers, United States veterans are the number one group of people who are today being diagnosed. Naval shipyards during World War II contained much asbestos and this is the prime reason why today we are seeing many Navy veterans finding that they have mesothelioma cancer.
These treatment centers are also seeing people who work with adhesives, cables, brake pads and clutches, installation, and many other items that are made with asbestos. If a person finds that they have mesothelioma it is most likely going to be due to exposure 30 to 40 years prior to diagnosis.
At any of the mesothelioma treatment centers a patient will find a number of doctors, radiologists, oncologists, nurses and many other specialists to provide comprehensive services including:
- Pain relief
- Diagnostic services
- Surgery
- Counseling
Promising new drugs and other treatments are also used at these centers and many are deciding along with their physicians to take part in these clinical trials. These mesothelioma treatment centers have many experts who are continually conducting research for better treatment of mesothelioma.
Specially equipped mesothelioma treatment centers are located in almost every state around the country and each one employs a staff that is dedicated to helping patients and finding a cure.
Diagnostics for asbestos caused mesothelioma will include x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, as well as open lung biopsy's in order to determine whether or not a patient does in fact have malignant Mesothelioma.
The centers also offer certain procedures, drugs, in an attempt to rid a person's body of the disease. These options that are available to mesothelioma patients include but are not limited to:
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation therapy
- Drug therapy
- Heated chemotherapy
- Gemcitabine
- Cisplatin
- Carboplatin
- Navelbine
- Lung transplant
- Thoracic Surgery
- Hospice Care
- New treatments
The majority of the patients visiting mesothelioma treatment centers are men; they actually have a 3 to 1 ratio over women. Most of the cases in where women have contracted the cancer have been wives of men who worked in the industries where asbestos was used. Because the disease is not as widespread in women as it is in men it can be very difficult for a physician to diagnose it properly.
